Stockbridge Munsee Band of the Mohicans
About
From the office of the President Robert Chicks:
On behalf of the Office of the President, the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal
Council, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican people I invite you to
visit our community. We welcome you to vacation with us to learn more about
our past, familiarize yourself with our rich culture, and experience
firsthand how we live today. As you will see, we are vibrant Tribal Community
with many diversified interests and you will feel at home here!
For golf enthusiasts, our Pine Hills Golf Course is a challenging course
nestled in the north woods. Just 30 minutes northwest of Shawano, off Hwy.
47, Pine Hills Golf Course is carved out of the mystic beautiful north woods
landscape. You will find splendor in our well-manicured golf course and can
enjoy the pleasures of world-class dining. After a round of golf, dine in
the charm of Pine Hills Supper Club, warmly decorated with a view opening
onto the golf course. It's a fine dining experience worth a return visit.
Come to where golf isn't just a game - it's an experience!
We also offer the North Star Casino Resort with over 1,200 gaming machines,
poker and table games such as black jack or craps, to name a few. Feel free
to stay at the hotel which has 97 striking rooms, a spa, a coffee house, deli,
and the Long House for fine dining.
We also invite you to visit the Arvid E. Miller Museum. This historical
library/museum is the official depository for the public records of the
Mohican Nation, Stockbridge-Munsee Band. Our primary goal is to preserve our
history and culture so that it can be shared. The museum holds a collection
of cultural and historical artifacts from pre-contact to the mission school
era.
There is also a research library consisting of books, manuscripts,
correspondence, handwritten letters, notes, maps, microfilm, microfiche,
scrapbooks, photographs, video tapes, language tapes, and much more! While you
are at the museum take time to visit the gift shop where you can purchase
authentic American Indian crafts. All proceeds go back into historical material
and research.
You can also further experience our rich culture by attending our Annual
Pow Wow in August. Here you can enjoy our
food, dance with us or visit with Tribal members to learn more about the
Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican People.
Sincerely,
Robert Chicks
