Frog Bay Tribal National Park open to public

Park open

(Red Cliff, Ashland Daily Press) -Where else can you find primordial boreal forests, pristine beaches, and a quaint hiking trail along Lake Superior that has not yet been developed?

The Frog Bay Tribal National Park, that's where.

89 acres of preserved wilderness just outside of Bayfield is now open to the public. On August 3 a welcoming ceremony took place.

"We've given tobacco to our esteemed elder, Uncle Leo and his son Richard to do a pipe ceremony for us," said Mark Montano, a member of the Red Cliff Band of Chippewa and MC for the day.

"We ask that all the spirits and spirit helpers come here and watch over us and help bless what we are about to do here," he continues, "and to take care of all the people that will be visiting this area and help them better understand who we are as Anishinabe people."
